Hello! I’ve planned and executed my fair share of DIY weddings and have learn many lessons the hard way. I thought it would be great to share some tips with couples taking on planning their own weddings. Follow me on Instagram to see the tips:

Tip 1: “Always have a Plan B”

No matter how much you’ve prepared for the big day, something could potentially go awry and it is beyond your control. Always have a contingency plan, whether it’s unfinished DIY project, unpredictable weather, or unexpected guests, have a Plan B or C in place and let someone you trust to execute on the wedding day, so you don’t feel overwhelmed.

Tip 2: “Accessorize the Details”

Those pretty detailed #weddingphoto don’t appear magically out of thin air! Have on hand ribbons, boxes, scrapbook papers, or trinkets that match your wedding theme and colors. Your #weddingphotographer can use these items to style detail shots of your jewelry, invitation, rings, shoes, etc.

Tip 3: “Mock it up”

Unless your coordinator or helpers are psychics or have super mind power, chances are they don’t see what you envisioned in your head. Do everyone a favor, “mock it up”! Gather all of your decor items and set up the look you want, snap a picture, and distribute the photo to people helping you on wedding day. They’ll thank you for the directions and you’ll get exactly what you designed!

Tip 4: “Get it in Writing”

I cringe every time my clients tell me that they don’t have a contract, invoice, or even a write up of what they ordered and paid for. You guys! You have to get it in writing! From venue booking to cake order, ask for a contract, invoice, or receipt with details of your order. Understand what is included and what incurs additional charges; when are the payments due; how many hours of coverage, etc., etc. If you’ve made changes to the order, get it in writing, too! I don’t know about you, but I would want to avoid drama on the wedding day. #diywedding #weddingplanning #weddingtips #weddingprofessionals
