For a modern, contemporary wedding, we decided an elegant black and white color palette with artistic accents would be perfect. The inspiration for this wedding design came from contemporary art, which is often unique and innovative. From creating a one-of-a-kind art-inspired backdrop, to hand-painted shortbread cookie favors, and invitation suites with modern hand-calligraphy, every aspect of this wedding design was beautiful and sophisticated.
The York Manor in Highland Park, CA was the perfect venue, with its clean white walls and high ceilings. The venue’s outdoor ceremony space provided plenty of natural greenery with hedge walls, accenting all of the black that we used in the wedding design. The ceremony design also featured artist Charles Sherman’s infinity ring sculpture. We used smokey ghost chairs to keep the pop of black, without taking away too much from the overall set up. Inside the venue, the large center stage was perfect for the sweetheart table, where we reused the ceremony backdrop and accented it with a display of hand-strung black silk petals, which was inspired by the art of Seon Ghi Bahk.
Guest tables were long, well-dressed serpentine tables with beautiful, textured floral arrangements placed on an iron stand to give it height. Unique, hand-painted shortbread cookies from Compact Cookies were both a work of art and a delicious favor. The cake from Half Baked Co. was a three-tiered cake aligned to one side and painted with frosting. Gold foil accents were the finishing touch to this masterpiece that perfectly paired with the contemporary black and white art theme. And we can’t forget the food! Chef Amy Jurist crafted a beautiful menu with artistic looking appetizers and entrées that brought in pops of color to our black and white palette. Everything looked and tasted amazing.
The floral arrangements from Akiko’s Floral Design were textured and beautiful, with black and white anemones to match the theme. The calligrapher, Jane, designed and put together a modern invitation suite on acrylic sheets, along with painted acrylic place cards. 29PM hosted the photo booth, with a fun, modern, geometric backdrop design. The bride had a beautiful gown with a deep back from Madeline Fig, accessories from Bekah Anne Acceossories, and heels from Nina Shoes. The groom’s classic, fitted suit was from Friar Tux.
