Laura & Brian, are due with their first baby in October. Their friend, Julia and I planned a pink/gray baby shower and invited their family and close friends to come celebrate. We rented the social hall at my church and decorated the room with DIY paper garlands, pink and ivory linens, pink and silver tissue pompoms, and lots of food and desserts!
The shower theme was “Food Cravings”. We got the idea from Hostess with the Mostess. Laura really liked the invitation from PaperCulture.com. The food mobile from the card design was so cute that I decided to make a real one to decorate the room. It took me forever to sew the little felt cherry, ice cream, cupcake, milk carton, and cookie, but it turned out pretty cute. Julia bought these ice cream cone ceramic dish/spoon sets and filled them up with beautiful flowers from local farmers market. She also hosted the shower games and gave away the floral centerpieces as prizes. Since the table overlay is pink, I stacked a small pink dessert plate on top of a large silver dinner plate, to give the place setting some contrast. Then I wrapped silver utensils in pink napkins and tied each set with a personalized band. Finally, a mini popcorn favor box filled with buttered popcorn flavor jellybeans sits on top of the plates.
Laura had been craving all kinds of breakfast food during her pregnancy, so I made mini pancakes and mini waffles as appetizers. She also craved almond slush with boba, so I made miniaturized version using 2 oz plastic shot glasses. Julia ordered an amazing 2-tiered fondant cake from Great Dane Baking Company in Los Alamitos and cupcakes from Sprinkles Cupcakes. Our little appetizer/dessert table was filled with yummies!
