My baby girl just turned ONE! Of course we had a big party for her first birthday. My original plan was to deck out my backyard with tents and tons of balloon filling the ceiling, but it rained, so change of plan. We moved the party to a local Asian fusion restaurant, Couwami, in Azusa. Since Chinese New Years was so close to her birthday, I wanted to stick with the lucky red and power pink color scheme. I thought of Pucca Funny Love as the theme, but my Maddie is not Pucca, so I designed the little “Maddie” Chinese girl character for her invitation, favor tag, labels, table numbers, etc. I recruited my talented friends to help me put this party together. Thanks Brittany Carr Seely Photography for capturing great photos!
Design your own invitation, then get it printed from vistaprint.com.
My good friend, Suzie of i heart cupcakes, made a 2-tier fondant cake (red velvet cream cheese), mini cupcakes (marble swirl) with custom fondant topper, and cake pops.
Escort cards were also favor tags that were tied to the mini bamboo steamer from eFavorMart.com.
The kids all got a goodie box (from PaperMart.com) filled with finger puppets from Ikea, mini tub of Play-Doh, mini pack of (4) crayons, mini box of Sun-Maid raisins, and Dum Dum lollipop.
My balloon specialist friends, Brian and Laura, made balloon flowers as centerpieces and balloon columns to frame Maddie’s poster at the dessert table. I got the poster printed at Costco for under $20.
We had a traditional “Grabbing” (抓周) Ceremony (Korean call it Dol). Maddie went straight for the $$ dollar bill for her first choice. She then wanted the photographer’s camera. If not counting the camera, her 2nd choice was laptop, then finally a stethoscope.
I think Maddie had tons of fun. She probably won’t remember, but I’m not worried, I’ve got pictures to prove it!
