“My art is everything to me. It’s my life, it’s the way I express myself.” said Preston, an artist based in Los Angeles and our leading man and groom. Magdalena is Preston’s wife and partner in art and life. “We are artistically meshed. She is my biggest fan, supporter and contributor.”
This intimate vow renewal was custom designed with our couple’s artistic expression in mind. The scene is set high above Downtown Los Angeles in the Arts District on the rooftop. The design inspiration came from one of Preston’s abstract paintings. We incorporated the bold colors he used in the painting to design the dress, floral arrangement, invitation suite, tablescape, and cake.
Preston and his wife, Magdalena, were married two years ago in the Lost River Range in Idaho. Their love story begin with Preston working in a restaurant where Magdalena and her father frequently visit. Preston was in love and made his move. Their first date was in Downtown LA at Preston’s favorite dive bar. The rest is history. Preston proposed to Magdalena when they traveled to Argentina. He popped the question on top of Cerro de la Gloria (The Hill of Glory) and she said yes.
They made a vow to stick together through thick and thin, and we helped them renew their vows in an intimate setting. The venue selected was the rooftop of private loft in a community of artists. It had a vintage meet contemporary ambiance, so we opted to use similar style in the altar backdrop using stacked vintage wooden crates. We decorated the backdrop with bucket of paint brushes, vintage props, and Preston’s paintings.
The vibrant color from the abstract painted were transferred into the design of the bridal bouquet. Our florist used majolica orchids, dendrobium orchids, oriental lily, snapdragon, tulips, craspedia, carnation, and ti leaves to arrange this beautiful bouquet. Magdalena’s hair and make up were natural and simple, enhancing her radiance.
Preston hand-painted the beautiful tea-length dress, giving it a one-of-a-kind bridal look.
The tableware, too, was selected to coordinate with the theme. Each place setting included a place card and menu card with illustrations by Conrad Haberland. Colorful popcorn favors whimsically matched the abstract colors. We gathered memorable dates to document their relationship milestones. Each event was printed on labels and attached to paint tubes. The paint tubes were displayed on a reclaimed wooden board, a former painting.
Finally, the amazing two-tiered fondant cake was inspired by one of Preston’s painting using navy and geometric shapes with a touch of gold. It began as a cold rainy day, but the weather did not dampen the spirit and love for Preston and Magdalena. And sure enough, the sun came out in a spectacular display just as they renewed their vows, and their happily ever after continues.
